Hello there!
I'm a web developer (5+ years of experience) and this is actually my first post here.
Lately I've been wanting to play some games, mostly made in RPGM, whose english translations are either non-existent or fully MTL - to the point that it breaks the immersion.
I know that fan translations put a huge toll on the translators so I thought really hard - not really - and came up with an idea for an app where anyone could collaborate on translations for at least RPGM games.
Here are some more details about the website idea:
- Users can upload RPGM games and request translations for them
- They can also contribute to any translation even if they don't have an account
- Translation contributions can be as small as just one sentence translated!
- The website will display a sentence at a time to be translated, and can be randomized to prevent spoiling the translators of the plot
- Translations by users/guests need to be reviewed by a trusted user (just to prevent trolling, not really a full review), before that, they are just translation suggestions
- Anyone can view approved translations and suggestions to make sure you don't translate something with a pending review or already translated
- Translations can be improved by anyone, but improvements need to go through the review system again
- Anyone can download the game at any point of the translation progress and the translation will be automatically applied
- While given a sentence to be translated, there would be a button to translate it with AI that could be used as a base to improve for those like me that don't have confidence on their japanese skills. Note that the AI translation for that sentence would just be a guide for the actual manual translation!
Just to be clear, I'm not asking for help to make this. I just want to see if enough people think this might be a good idea and would be willing to contribute with the translations, since my japanese is almost non-existent. Also, it would be a way to improve one's japanese!
